ARBORING SECRETS

The whispering of secrets into the hollows of trees is found in many cultures, from the therapeutic suggestion of the wise druid in the Celtic legend of Maon to the opening and closing scenes of the recent Wong Kar Wai film "2046".

Arboring Secrets

Trees hold secrets.

They are the memory archives of the biosphere. Sensitive to cosmic radiation, changes in the earth's magnetic field, lunar and solar cycles, trees store everything in their annual rings with such a precision that dendrologists have derived a climate calendar from tree ring patterns that goes back 7000 years.

Participants will be given the opportunity to whisper their secrets into a hollow in the tree.  This intimate connection with the tree will activate an exchange.

A secret  is whispered back. The tree will tell a little known truth about climate over time gone by.

An audio sensor will trigger the audio player to start playing when the participant's secret has been told. Facts about the earth's past climate will be delivered through the speaker system hidden within the tree.
